Kids love to make their own food – and they’re more likely to eat it if they do.
Here’s a fun kids’ lunch idea to help capitalize on that – it’s nothing fancy – kids love it because they get to make it themselves.
“Make your Own” Rice Pilaf.
Give each kid a helping of plain brown rice with a little salt, and offer them some “mix-ins” to make their own “rice pilaf:”
Ghee or melted butter
Any kind of herb. As you can see in the picture, we used Rosemary, Parsley, Chives and Mint – I don’t think these are all supposed to go together, but the kids sprinkled them all on enthusiastically and gobbled it up with complements!
Other herb/spice ideas:
Sage, Basil, Oregano, Thyme, Dill, Black Pepper
You could also top it with plain yogurt if your kids like something creamy on their rice.
This was an on-the-fly idea that turned out to be a great way to use up leftover rice. It will go with anything – especially leftovers – I first served it with fried paneer, fresh oranges, and salty lassie to drink. It’s now become a favorite in my house – the kids ask for it all the time.
